3 Ways to help families of Sandy Hook Elementary Victims
Friday morning, December 14, 2012, a 20 year old gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut took the lives of 26 people in the matter of minutes, 20 of those victims were children ranging from ages 5-10. The final death toll came to 28, as the shooter took his own life, and the body of another victim was found at a separate crime scene.
As news of this unimaginable tragedy unfolded, millions of people and families across the nation were absolutely distraught. Not only by the sadness they felt for the victims and their families, but also from the numbing realization that this could happen in any of our towns and to any of our schools.
People took action yesterday as stated in an article on the website, Mashable, to set up fundraisers for the victims and their families. If you would like to participate, please view the online campaigns below. Please also share any other online campaigns you may come across to help this cause.
Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims Relief Fund: This is a fundraiser started by a former Sandy Hook Elementary student, Ryan Kraft, to raise money for the victims, their families and all other locals affected by yesterdays events.
Sandy Hook Elementary School Fund: This is a fundraiser started on Crowdtilt to raise $50,000 in 30 days. Money raised will go to a memorial fund to honor the lives lost and to assist families of the victims in funeral costs for their loved ones.
Secure Schools: A fundraiser started by Becky Hoover on GiveForward to raise money to increase current security standards in U.S schools. This includes installing pass-key type systems with cameras to help avoid situations like this in the future.
While we keep our thoughts and prayers with the victims and families of this horrible tragedy, let’s also use this time to make a profound change in the way we appreciate this life and the loved ones around us.
