This Weekend Marks Moving “Forward on Climate” March on Capitol

forward on climate

This weekend was host to many momentous events starting with Valentine’s Day and ending with President’s Day today.  But for 40,000 people this weekend marked the culmination of a movement that brought them to the streets of Washington D.C. representing countless others like myself that could not make the trip.  They marched to protest the creation of the Keystone XL pipeline and urge the President to move “Forward on Climate.”

Organized by 350.org and the Sierra Club, the rally united people from all over the country from toddlers to the elderly who want to see real action taken by the government in response to climate change.  This comes in the wake of the recent State of the Union address where President Obama acknowledged the magnitude of the effects of climate change with events such as Superstorm Sandy.

And it just goes to show that it takes more than credible scientific data and evidence to create necessary change.  As with most of the movements that have catalyzed significant changes in our history, it takes the boldness and bravery of the people of this nation coming together and marching on the capitol to get the political attention that changes the course of our future.  Let’s make sure we hold Washington accountable and keep this climate of change moving forward.

Take action with Sierra Club to fight climate change now!
